In the Institute of Forest Sciences of Bialystok University of Technology, in the Scientific Research Centre in Hajnówka, vast collections of the Macromycetes Fungarium and the Micromycetes Fungarium, have been gathered and successively expanded. The founder and owner of the Fungarium is Marek Wołkowycki - a chief expert of the Institute of Forest Sciences of BUT in the field of mycology.
SEE MOREThe Białowieża Forest is a relatively large and well-preserved forest complex. It is distinguished by the presence of forest fragments of an extremely primitive nature and the protection of natural ecological processes. It is referred to as the last lowland natural forest in Europe, or a relic of primary forests. Optimal conditions for the development of many species of mycobiota are provided by well-preserved large-surface, natural forest ecosystems with diverse phytocenoses in terms of habitat and structure.
